Blackout 2003

Narrative Infographic: Blackout 2003

On August 14, 2003, hundreds of cities across the midwest and northeast went dark as the United States experienced the worst blackout in its history. Our task was to piece together what actually happened and discover who (or what) was to blame, and then visualize it so that others can understand as well.

There were many details to fully understand the macro-concepts of this event as well, including how electricity works, real and reactive power, the North American electric grid, the relevant reliability coordinators and electric utilities, and more.
